MAX’S STORY
Max Raab was a Philadelphian with a longtime love of cars, sailboats, planes, toys and, well, all kinds of things. To say his tastes and interests were eclectic is to say the least and ShopOnEleven (recently featured in last December’s edition of toycollectormagazine.com) was just the latest example. Most recently known as the documentary film producer of two award-winning Philadelphian labors of love: STRUT!, about the Mummers and their annual New Year’s Day parade, and Rittenhouse Square, a year in the life of a city park, Max originally made his name in the 1960’s with a traditional clothing company called Villager. With the founding of Villager, Max created the uniform for a generation of women that lead the New York Times to label him the “dean of the prep look.” More Seventh Avenue successes followed but in addition to his affinity for cars, sailboats, planes and toys, Max also had a longtime love of movies.
